Hi there! Important question with a complicated answer! Let me try to simplify. The Earth formed about 4.567 billion years ago, an easy number to remember, along with the Sun and the rest of our Solar Sytem, including planets, moons and asteroids. The Universe formed wayyyy earlier, about 13 billion years ago, and the most widely accepted theory for how is the Big Bang Theory, which involves a massive explosion, as the name suggests! This is mainly because people realized that other galaxies are moving away from our own at great speed, in all directions, as if they had all been propelled by an ancient explosive force. Did that answer your question?
