• Question: Sharks are my favorite animal, do you know how many sharks there are in world?

      Hi there,
      Yes sharks are amazing animals. There are over 400 species of shark, but new ones are still being discovered. As we cant count every single shark in the ocean, scientists have estimated that there may be up to one billion sharks!
      This may sound like a lot, but nearly 100 million sharks are fished each year leavinng many species threatened. The great white, angel, daggernose, and zebra sharks are some of the most endangered species. Sharks are illegally hunted by some and legally hunted by countries like Japan and Korea. They are hunted for their liver oils and fins which are used to make shark fin soup, a delicacy in Asia. Sharks fins are said to be so tasteless that the soup has to be flavoured using chicken stock. So sharks are being killed to make a soup, that is tasteless, how ridiculous and unfair?!
      Sharks have been around for nearly 400 million years, since before the dinosaurs. I hope that humans don’t wipe them off the planet all for some tasteless soup.
