• Question: how did the universe first come about and how??

      Hi Andrew,

      The Big Bang Theory is the most widely accepted explanation of how the Universe came about. In this theory, a single violent event was responsible for the birth of the Universe.
      It was Edwin Hubble who first realised that that galaxies outside our Milky Way are all moving away from us, each at a speed proportional to its distance from us. He realized what this meant there must have been an instant in time (about 13 billion years ago) when a single point contained the entire Universe!
